Richard K. Pugsley- Assistant Conductor

Known for his musical sensitivity and creative artistry, Richard K. Pugsley has conducted Gloriæ Dei Cantores over the past 15 years in numerous concert performances, including Handel’s Messiah and Israel in Egypt, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. He has also directed many collaborative ventures with Gloriæ Dei Cantores and Vox Cæli Sinfonia orchestra in opera and oratorio, including the New England premiere of the opera The Pilgrim’s Progress by Vaughan Williams (in which he performed the lead role of Pilgrim), Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti, and Handel’s oratorio Saul (in which he performed the title role). Mr. Pugsley has produced seventeen of Gloriæ Dei Cantores’ recordings, including their most recent SACD Faith of My Heart -- Sacred Choral Music of Franz Liszt, released for the composer's 200th anniversary this year, and another anniversary tribute celebrating the choral music of Alan Hovhaness, to be released in October 2011. Richard K. Pugsley is the resident coach of vocal technique for Gloriæ Dei Cantores, and maintains an active voice studio. As a graduate of Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Ohio, his studies have included conducting with Hugh Floyd and John Knight, vocal pedagogy with David Arnold, Lorraine Manz, the late Richard Miller and the late Craig Timberlake, and Gregorian chant with the late Mary Berry.
